Cabot Trail - June 27-29

Hi all -
Mike and I have got the ball rolling for the first annual DOCC Cabot Trail ride! It'll take place June 27-29, 2008. We chose this weekend as it's early enough in the season to take advantage of pre-season rates and avoid some of the slower tourist traffic congestion, but hopefully late enough for there to be great riding weather.

We've chosen the Telegraph House in Baddeck as the homestead for the weekend. Baddeck marks the beginning and end of the Cabot Trail, and is central to the rest of Cape Breton. It's a pretty town with several restaurants, a grocery store, waterfront, a liquor store and bar all within walking distance from the Telegraph House.

We have a group rate at the Telegraph House. Rooms are normally $99-109/ night, but we're getting ride-up rooms for $94/night. When you're making your booking, tell them you're with the Ducati Owners Club and they'll give you access to these reserved ride-up rooms.

There are 2 styles of ride-up rooms reserved:
- 4 split cottages w/ 1 queen bed
- 11 standard motel rooms w/ 2 double beds
Other main lodge rooms are also available with parking adjacent to the lodge. These rooms are not included in the group rate so prices will vary, although some are less $ than the ride-up rooms.

If you're interested in joining us for what ought to be a terrific weekend of spectactular riding, I'd recommend that you reserve your room soon. The Telegraph House will not charge cancellation penalties if for some reason you can't make it for the weekend, as long as you give them 1 week's notice.

We'll be updating this thread with new info as we get closer to the spring. In the meantime, post up your ideas about how to make the Cabot Trail ride weekend memorable.

Come on Spring '08!

My timing, not your's.

I'm going to be in the neighbourhood that weekend, but unable to attend.

High School Reunion in Port Hawkesbury.

But I think I'll show up at the reunion on the SS :)

Thanks for organizing! If anything changes, I'll be in contact

Mark, I'm in. Glad to see Joe will be there as well. Mark just met a new member today, a fellow by the name of terry I think, just got an ST3 from Motoplex?

Sorry about the conflict, Alan. But since you'll be in the neighbourhood maybe you can skip out with us for a blast on the SS

Bill and Joe - great that you're in! The new ST3 owner's name is Ted, I believe. Good to see another new Ducati owner in the area.

Be sure to stop at the Glenora Distillery on your way around the trail Awesome food, fantastic acommadations in their hillside chalets. And a VERY fine single malt.It is my favourite right there with 15 yr old Macallan.

Ric -
Thanks for the suggestion. Looks like the Glenora Distillery is just north of Mabou on the western side of CB and might make a great place to stop for lunch or dinner. It's also on the other side of the Margaree River valley from Baddeck which is a beautiful ride.

Hey Mark, can't wait, mabey through Cape George? Tatamagouche by gosh? I may have shot my face off to a friend of mine about the trip and he just bought a new Harley "Cross Bones" so he kind of has the fever, I didn't think it would be a problem but if it is let me know. Sounds like there is going to be a great crew and yes Meat Cove is a little barren, we all new a little solitude.

Hi Bill -
All good. That new HD Cross Bones is a good looking bike, serious retro appeal with the hangers, springer front and tractor saddle. The single front disc may be glowing red after the switchbacks into Pleasant Bay, though.

As far as individuals participating in the weekend on other bike brands goes, I certainly don't have an issue with it. But this being a fairly heavy undertaking for a DOCC event there is an expectation that everyone who participates be a club member (or affiliated with Atlantic Motoplex as they'll be supporting the weekend, although we're not sure how just yet. Some of their people will likely be coming along too! 8) ).

Ahhh... subtle arm-twisting method for boosting club membership.
