Excellent website for Ontario roads, all suggested and tested by riders:

A general website for Renfrew County, has some great maps, this is the driving tour link:

Thanks, folks, this stuff is great. It plays right into the kind of riding I most enjoy, and now that I've gone off the lure of heading south of the border, I'd like to get to know Ontario a little better.

Stephanie, you've posted riding routes and restaurants, now all I need is a list of cute little Mom&Pop motels and I'll be all set!

Here's a fantastic place we found on day four of our four day tour of all the roads we could get to on the Great Ontario Bikeroads site. We'd planned to stay in Bancroft but there was no room at the inns, so we called up these folks at the Spectacle Lake Lodge, just west of Barry's Bay on Hwy60.

http://www.spectaclelakelodge.com/

Their cheapest room was about the same price as the places in Bancroft but MUCH BETTER FOOD and a wonderful peaceful lake setting. The food's not cheap but on that trip, after three days of lousy food, I didn't mind!

My husband took the photo on their main page, fifth one down, of the canoist on the lake, very early in the morning.

The nice thing is, this place is at the extreme north of what I consider to be the best riding area - there's so little traffic on the roads in the area roughly inside the box made by Hwy 29 on the east, Hwy 60 on the north, Hwy 62 on the west and Hwy 7 on the south. So for you coming up from Ajax, this might be a nice 2 day trip!

Thanks for that Stephanie, it certainly does look worth checking out. I like doing overnighters, and that place would serve the purpose admirably.

And tell your hubby that picture is not just good, it's GREAT! As a long time photography enthusiast, I know that lucking into a picture like that doesn't happen often, and when you do, you also need the know-how to capture it properly.
