Insurance

I have recently rec'd my renewal for 2010 with Jevco ( combined with Kingsway now ) for a 2007 1098s.

I am 52, with 0 convictions and have been asked to pay $3000.00 yearly for liability only in 2010.

Last year, the amount was $1300.00. My broker has explained to me that Jevco now places Ducatis under supersports ( thought they always were ) and that the surcharge is 300%.

Before I give up on insuring for this season for street use, does anyone have any recomendation or possible solution?

I plan on participating with the club on trackdays anyways and this may be my only chance this year to ride this bike.

Ah.... ye old "Insurance Thread" pops up once again.
Stucatz, I went through this a couple of years ago when my premium jumped from around $560 to over $2500 for an air cooled 1998 900 SS.
Sorry, but the short answer is to start the long and tedious ritual of contacting every insurance company you can to compare costs.
It's suppose to be illegal for them to tie things together. However BIG business seems to have found ways around the laws. You'll get your best rate through a company that also insures cars, homes and anything else you may have. That is, after you move everything over to them. That's what I ended up doing. The insurance arm of Toronto Dominion Bank now has all our cars, bikes and home.
Funny, how even though I gain in experience, ride fewer kilometres and my bike drops in value with each passing year yet... my premiums keep rising. Wish my wages worked the same way!

The bottom line is, that as long as the Insurance Industry is allowed to run amuck with our bucks and the Financial Services of Ontario, (who are suppose to oversee them) turn a blind eye to their practices, we're at their mercy.

Insurance reforms are long over due here in Ontario.

I was in a similar situation last year with a 1098 insured by Jevco. I found the best rate was at State Farm even though I don't insure a car or house with them.

Yes thanks guys, I have a call in to State Farm.

So, if not State Farm, are we out of luck and just suck it up and pay those rates?

I feel like I have to be on my "best behavior" with this whole insurance thing.

Give Primmum a try, they're pretty good for my two modern 2-valvers. Don't know about a 1098 though...

The short answer I got was a Motorcycles are classed as "recreational" and therefore do not follow the same rules as insurance for cars. I use State Farm and they just raised my rates to $2000 a year for full coverage on my 00' 996. They told me even if I bring them all my insurance business it won't matter because they don't apply multi-plan discounts to recreational vehicles.

Good luck.

I am wondering if the insurance companies give a good rate to get you to switch to them and then try to charge more on renewals hoping you won't bother to look around?

I have a totally clean drivers record with no tickets or claims yet the last few years I have found my Insurance company jacking up my rates on renewal which makes me hunt around for a more competitive quote. I am lazy and I don't know anybody in the Insurance biz so I just use kanteix.ca to get online quotes. There are probably many other services that do the same thing. If you know any please post up and I will check them out.

Last year I switched from Kingsway to Primmum. I used kanetix.ca and found Primmum had a much lower price and better payment options. I just got my Primmum renewal and they jumped my quote 18% so I went to Kanetix.ca again and found a quote from Jevco with the same rate I pad last year. So now I gotta get setup with them. I hate wasting time but the money I save I can put towards a new helmet.

Ok guys, update: called TD Ins.,under $1000, saved $2000.00 from Jevco premiums for 2010, I just don't understand this industry.

I keep hearing "if your looking for a competitive premium"....horseshit, I don't think many don't understand that word competitive.

So in the end I'm now with TD

You might want to try Riders Plus. They have a website that you can do an online quote. The problem with them is they don't insure the entire Ducati line just the smaller less powerful models . Yours could fall into that category. My insurance for a 620 Multistrada was 660 when I was with Kingsway and jumped to 2200 when they went with Jevco. Primmum gave me a rate of 773 and Riders Plus gave me a rate of 560.This is for liability only.
Needless to say I jumped on that. They gave get service, did it all with e-mail and probably from start to finish took a half a week. The service rep's name was Sarah. It's worth a shot.
