Need Tires for Laguna Seca
Posted: Wed Mar 28, 2007 12:29 am
What are the best tire sizes for a (87) Laguna Seca? I've heard that the bike's handling can be significantly affected by bad tire sizes.. maybe because of the 16 inch rims??
'Tho I bought the bike a couple of years ago, I haven't had a chance to ride it yet, but want to this summer.
The tires on it now were made in 1998; they haven't been used much, and aren't cracking, but I'm still worried about their age.
The tires that came on it when I bought it are 160/60ZR16 Rear & 130/60ZR16 Front.
But I can't find this size out there Closest are: Dunlop Qualifiers: Rear 160/60; Front 130/70.
Would this combination work out OK?
There are some Michelin A59x / M59x of the right size on ebay, built in 2004, but I'd like to get some made a bit later if possible...

Hello Charlie,
I used Mezler Comp K's on my 750 sport it has 16 inch. wheels on it .
I cannot remember the exact size but I went one size larger in the outsize diameter to get to the diameter of a 17 inch. tire. This was my track bike.it handled very well with these larger profile/diameter tires on it.You might have to hunt for these tires as I believe that Metzler quit making them
Tnxs. Eric.

I certainly will try to contact Michel. Thanks!
The idea of using &0% tires, thus making the 16 inch rim 17 inches intrigues me. There appears to be enough static clearance under the fenders, but I worry about dynamic clearance.

Here is what you need. They are sized for the Montjuich and came with disk carriers to fit the disks from the Oscam wheels or you can use the 280/300 brembo disks. The front is 3.50x17 and the rear is 5.00x17. They are forged AZ80 magnesium and then machined. What I like is that they are made to the Campagnolo pattern but have a modern cush drive and 520 sprocket.
