250 Scrambler

Hello,
I'm from Portugal and I've found a Ducati Scrambler 250.
I'm about to buy it but I have some questions to correct identify the model.
It is dated 1975, but I've read that the production ended 1974.
The Frame no. 255440 and Engine no. 116443 are quite diferent.
No disk brake.
I can't confirm if it is a Desmo or not, I didn't see it yet.

My question is if this motorcycle is correct (engine + frame) or if it was changed?

Is there any frame/engine/year table to look into?

The engine nr tells if it is as Desmo?

Hi Paulo,
Engine & frame #'s don't match on Ducatis. In Canada, vehicles were registered as the model year they were sold, not the year of manufacture. This practice stopped in the late '70's. Was this the practice in Europe? (I had a '66 Monza Jr., registered as a '69)
The best thing to do is to reseach the model and compare the specs and appearance. Check Mick Walker's "Ducati Singles" book, and any other relevant books & magazines you can find.
There is no "desmo" notation in the engine #. The easiest way to tell is the cam end cover (left side of head) will say desmo on it. Spring head covers have the engine size on them (eg. 250cc), and are a different shape. If in doubt, pull the exhaust rocker cover & look.
Lastly, I'm not sure that the 250 scramblers were offered with desmo engines, but I may be wrong about this.
