Putting Superbike forks on a Supersport

Hi- I'm looking to put 748 or 916 forks on my 95 SS. As I understand, the following needs to happen:
1) Get the conversion kit (shims and upper triple clamp)
2) Get the new forks
3) Change the front axle & shims

Is that it? With the different sized front axle, is there any problem fitting the wheel and the discs into the caliper? Also, what size axle do you need for this?

Thanks- I may be wildly off base here. Your advise is appreciated.

Tom

The wheel bearings must be swapped to accomodate the SBK axle. Good luck finding the correct replacement, they're hard to come by. The caliper mounting may be different and if you don't swap the calipers you'll have to use Brembo's mounting plate. You'll also have to offset the calipers (or mounting plate). The speedo drive won't work with the larger axle. You can swap the internals from an SBK unit but the drive ratio is different and your speedo won't be very accurate. The fender mounts are different and the stock fender won't bolt up. If you can find a Cycle Cat steering crown (I hear that they have stopped production) you'll have to shim the lower clamp. Because of the taper on some models of SBK forks, you might find that you have little room to move the fork up or down in the clamps.
The standard valving isn't ideal and the 916/748 spring is just too limp for the SS.

Thanks for the great advice
