A succession of Desmos, complemented by a cage or two of the Stuttgart variety....

Thanks all,

I have looked at ebay euro motard, They have pipes for the 600/700/900. Can any of these work on the 800 ?

I have also contacted Hindle for places to buy (ANY IDEAS ?)

The Remus route and the UK web are on the list for tonight !!

FBF, Hindle aftermarket exhausts

Postby Bigphil » Fri Sep 19, 2008 11:12 am

More questions !!!

Have spoken with my local Ducati dealer. Acknowledging now that Termignoni do not manufacture the low/standard slip on any more, he cited that if I change to Hindle or FRF I will need a new ECU, which Ducati do not manufacture either.

Spoke with FBF, they state that the standard ECU will work with their product

Who is right or wrong !?!?!?

Also, would a pipe designed for the 750 or 900ss work ?

Thanks again

Hmm... your Ducati dealer's recommendation sounds suspicious to me.

If you only change out the stock exhaust cans for aftermarket slipon cans you ought to be fine. However, if you also change the headers and/or open the airbox and add a freer flowing air filter you'll need to adjust the factory ECU and/or add a Powercommander. My fuel injected Monster ran perfectly fine when I installed slipon pipes but left the restrictive sotck airbox cover and factory air filter in place. However, when I removed the airbox cover and installed a K&N air filter the bike immediately began to very lean and I needed to install a Power Commander 3 and have a custom map made for it.

Similarly with my ST3 - I ran that bike for a couple of months with the DP pipes but left the stock air filter and air box cover in place. It ran fine. Once I had an opportunity to take the bike into the dealer for a proper service they did the ECU/airbox/air filter swap all at the same time.

My experience has been that, unless you adjust the flow of air into the motor or out of the motor (ie intake and/or header + exhaust mods) the bike will run essentially the same. Slipons are really just for sound and won't give any performance gains (excepting the bassier/louder sound which some might argue is a performance mod  ).

And keep in mind the Ferracci guys have been building extremely fast Ducati race bikes for decades so I'd tend to believe them when they say you won't need a new ECU if you're just installing their pipes.

Sorry, I don't know whether a 750 or 900 pipe will work.

Even more questions

Thanks Markus and all for your thougts & recommendations.

I have also located a set of Barracuda carbon fibre slip ons, which can be on my bike at the end of next week at close to a third less cost !!!!.

I have heard of Barracuda before from friends in the 'in-line four" gang, but fitted on a Ducati ????

Again, thoughts and recommendations please
