over heating 916

Postby whtlne » Thu May 20, 2010 12:26 pm

I am hoping for a little advice. I have a 95' 916 and have been bringing it in to work. running temp. on the highway has been a steady 140 to 150 deg.

exiting the highway in stop in/go traffic my temp. gauge has been climbing quickly to 180 - 190. yesterday it went higher and the coolant began to over-flow.

Once the bike begins to move and gets the air flowing all is good.

I have samco hoses and the coolant bottle is not cracked. I have pre-mixed Motul coolant.

anyone have some similar experiences and hopefully some successful solutions!

thanks

I'd say that temp is not unusual, I think you may want to look into the reservoir cap, the spring might be weak and letting the pressure out too soon (or not sealing too well)...

Air in the cooling system would lead to the same results though, so you may want to try to see if air bubbles are not trapped somewhere (remove the reservoir cap, and warm up the engine, squeeze the hoses, move the bike a bit from side to side, etc...) and let it cool down.
